Welcome to C.L.O.W.N.S.

C.L.O.W.N.S. stands for Creating Learning Opportunities in WesterN Somerset and was created in April 1995. We currently operate a service for parents/carers and children in rural isolation and areas of need within the West Somerset District Council area.

C.L.O.W.N.S. provides Tumbling Toddler family activity with structured, themed sessions for pre-school children in village halls, children's centres, nurseries, pre-schools and parent/carer toddler groups.

C.L.O.W.N.S. provides a mobile and static Toy Library offering a large selection of toys.

We offer a Scrapstore by forging a partnership between C.L.O.W.N.S. and local businesses, salvaging their clean and safe materials to meet the creative needs of groups and families.

We provide a professional Outreach family support service for pre-school children and their parents/carers.

The Playbus visits different rural villages each week for 2 hourly sessions during term time. Parents and carers are welcomed aboard with their children to have fun and activities include various crafts, singing and storytime. The bus carries information regarding a range of related services and maximises the impact of visits by working with other agencies who require rural community access.

The Outreach Van visits parents with children under 5 years of age living in isolated rural areas. It also provides Health Visitor clinics, information, individual consultations between parents/carers and workers and a small play area for the children. Other agency services are able to access the van according to need.

C.L.O.W.N.S. is an independent charity and relies on grants, sponsorship, fees and donations.

C.L.O.W.N.S. has a service level agreement with the Children's Centres who are currently funding 17% of our work (community development work). Other grants for the 2006/2007 financial year are; Children in Need, West Somerset District Council, EYDCP, Southwest Foundation, Artlife, Play Forum, Somerset County Council, Local Network Fund, Leonard Laity Stoate Charitable Trust and local donations.

We hold many fundraising events and also have on-going book sales on the Playbus from different companies.
